Like the description of the book says, this story is true. Now you might be wondering, why would a book about penguins be so controversial? Well, the book portrays two same-sex penguins that hatch an egg and raise a chick. This book has been banned numerous times since its release and has even appeared on the American Library Association’s top ten challenged and banned book list 8 times since 2006. In time for the tenth anniversary of And Tang o Makes Three, this Classic Board Book edition is the perfect size for small hands.” And with the help of a kindly zookeeper, Roy and Silo got the chance to welcome a baby penguin of their very own. But their desire for a family was the same. At the penguin house at the Central Park Zoo, two penguins named Roy and Silo were a little bit different from the others. I will summarize the book and explain why they are banned.
Which is why I am dedicating this blog to a different banned book every week. However, recently author Stephen King tweeted:Īnd it opened my eyes, even though I have access to these banned books others don’t.
I have known about the banning of books for a while but since it didn’t personally affect me, I chose to not talk about it. National Geographic reports “ Between July 1, 2021, and March 31, 2022, alone, there were 1,586 book bans in 86 school districts across 26 states- affecting more than two million students.” Book Banning is a prominent problem i n our country today.
